#4 – Los Gatos High School

Initial Service

This Crown A -779 -11 Supercoach was built in 1952, as #4, for Los Gatos High School in Los Gatos, CA.

Service History

This bus was initially powered by a 779 cu. in. Hall-Scott gasoline engine. In 1970 it was repowered with a 220 Cummins diesel. 

Los Gatos #4 was sold in 1973 to St. Francis High School in Mountain View, CA, and renumbered as St. Francis High School #3.

Pathway to PBM

Pacific Bus Museum Member, Tom Shafer, bought the bus in 2001 after it was retired. He donated it to the Pacific Bus Museum in 2003.

What People Love

It’s a school bus. They are universally loved, often as a kid’s first bus memory.

This bus was featured in this Smucker’s commercial: Show & Tell   The shoot took place at the Newhall Ranch in Fillmore, CA on April 7-8, 2010. The production company wanted a school bus from the 1950s and the PBM’s 1952 Crown fit their requirements perfectly… PBM member Dave Hughes drove the bus for the shoot.
