Bob Redden

2004 Obituary

I am sorry to report that our friend, Bob Redden, passed into his eternal rest…

Bob was a life long student of the entire transportation scene, world wide, aviation, railroads, ships and his first love, buses. Unique among hobbyists, Bob Redden was a professionally trained photographer and for years was employed by General Electric in Lynn, Massachusetts, in their photography department, filling assignments worldwide.

To say he was prolific is an understatement. He published two journals for the hobbits, IBC, a bus hobbits magazine and Aircraft Journal, produced a series of magazines detailing the history of GM buses, Trailways and Greyhound, videos, bus models, originated Bus Bash and the list goes on. All of us have enjoyed his photographs which he generously shared with everyone. He also did a nationwide tour for the American Bus Association photographing the operations of member carriers.

Redden, born in 1938, was a native of Lynn, Massachusetts, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife Donna Jean and seven children and numerous grandchildren by a previous marriage.

The above was written by one of Bob’s close friends, Jon Hobijn. It may be used for publication by those publishers/editors receiving this notice. For those who did not know Bob, bear in mind that most within the bus industry did and many considered him the industry’s “official” photographer.
