Robert Arthur Burrowes was born on December 26, 1919, in Bozeman, Gallatin, Montana. He married Annie May Mortimore in 1965. He lived in Oakland, Alameda, California, United States in 1930 and Brooklyn Judicial Township, Alameda, California, United States in 1940. He died on 24 April 2009, in Reno, Washoe, Nevada, at the age of 89, and was buried in Yerington, Lyon, Nevada, United States. He is survived by his sons, Harold, of Fremont, California and James, of Bristol, Virginia; his sister, Elizabeth Vierra, of Salt Lake City, Utah and her five children.
Burrowes began his career in transit with the Key System in Oakland and retired as General Manager for Humboldt Transit Authority in Eureka. He also was the head man at Culver City and was involved in the start of the Riverside Transit Agency along with several other jobs he held within the industry. Burrowes was also a noted photographer who began taking bus photos in the 1930s.
Bob Burrowes joined the predecessor to the Pacific Bus Museum, the West Coast Motor Coach Museum in August of 1986, while living in Yerington, Nevada. He was an active member and regular contributor to the PBM Membership newsletter, The Paddle. Bob also helped research historical data and time tables for excursion buses and routes. Bob’s wife Annie and son Harold were also PBM members.
Outside of PBM, Bob published his Nevada Bus Man newsletter and contributed to other publication such as Motor Coach Age and bus World Magazine.
