Initial ServiceThis “Old Look” GM was originally delivered new to the Sacramento Transit Authority (STA) in Sacramento, CA in 1958. It was bus #128 and was part of an order of ten buses (121-130).
The bus spent many years in Sacramento before being sold to Unitrans, the campus transit system for the University of California, in nearby Davis, CA, along with two other 4512’s; #121 and #124. Unitrans numbered the bus #4507.

The PBM acquired the bus from Unitrans in 1997.
Excerpt from the January/February 1997 edition of the PBM Member Newsletter, The Paddle:
“The #4507 was donated to the PBM by Unitrans and they arranged for the coach to be picked up on January 4, 1997. On the PBM’s recent excursion in Davis, CA in September, 1996 the Acquisitions Committee had a chance to evaluate the #4507 along with riding sister TDH 4512 #4508 as part of our excursion. As reported in the September-October 1996 Paddle, formal approval to accept the #4507 was made by the PBM board based on the recommendation of the Acquisitions Committee.
The PBM wishes to thank Unitrans for the donation of bus #4507, specifically Manager, Jim McElroy and Equipment Superintendent, Wally Mellor. Special thanks for a job well done go to PBM Secretary John McKane who was instrumental in making the arrangements for coach to be donated and getting the bus moved to the PBM’s Fremont storage site along with PBM member Ed Vadnais.”
An opportunity arose in 2006 for the museum to provide transportation to the Niles Canyon Railway tourist line from Fremont BART and the Niles District of Fremont. TDH-4512 #128, already in 1940’s San Francisco Market Street Railway livery, was chosen for the service. Leased to American Stage Tours, a Pacific Bus Museum Business Level member, 128 was operated as part of their fleet from 2006 to 2013 when funding for the tourist shuttle ended.
The Art Deco San Francisco Market Street Railway tribute livery (paint scheme) makes this bus stand out when it is on the road. This connection to SF MUNI makes it an interesting part of Bay Area history.
Also, Bus #128 was used in the filming of the 2014 movie, “Jersey Boys”.
